6" Spathiphyllum Peace Lily
Peace Lily Varieties - The Serene Spathiphyllum
Meet two lovely members of the Peace Lily family, Spathiphyllum 'Green Peace Lily' and Spathiphyllum 'Domino Peace Lily.' These classic plants are celebrated for their graceful, dark green foliage and beautiful white flowers. They are a perfect choice for anyone looking for a low-maintenance plant that adds a touch of serenity and elegance to their home or office.
Plant Characteristics
Spathiphyllum 'Green Peace Lily' is the classic, beloved houseplant. It features large, deep green, glossy leaves that grow in a lush clump. Its signature pure white spathes, which are often mistaken for flowers, rise elegantly above the foliage. This variety is known for its ability to thrive in a variety of light conditions and for its excellent air-purifying qualities.
Spathiphyllum 'Domino Peace Lily' is a more unique and striking variety. It shares the same graceful form as the classic Peace Lily but is distinguished by its stunning variegated leaves. The deep green leaves are beautifully splashed and speckled with white, giving them a confetti-like appearance that adds a touch of brightness and artistry to the plant.
Care Instructions
- Light: Both varieties prefer low to medium indirect light. They will tolerate low light, but their growth will be slower and they may not produce as many flowers. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn their leaves.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. They are very communicative and will droop dramatically when they need a drink, but they perk right back up once watered.
- Humidity: They thrive in average to high humidity. Occasional misting or a humid environment will help them look their best.
- Temperature: They do best in typical room temperatures, between 65-80°F. Protect them from cold drafts.
- Soil: Use a well-draining indoor potting mix that retains some moisture.
- Fertilizer: Fertilize with a balanced liquid houseplant food every 6-8 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
Special Notes
Peace Lilies are excellent air purifiers, helping to clean the air of common household toxins. They are also fantastic at letting you know when they need water, making them a great choice for beginner plant parents. Please be aware that while beautiful, these plants are toxic if ingested by pets or children.
Perfect for desks, tabletops, or as a serene floor plant in any room.
