Product Details

Fern Sprengeri - The Graceful Asparagus Fern

Add feathery elegance to your space with the beautiful Fern Sprengeri (Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri’), a charming plant that brings soft texture and cascading grace to any setting. Despite its common name, this isn’t a true fern but rather a member of the asparagus family - however, its delicate, needle-like foliage creates the same lush, green ambiance that fern lovers adore.
**Available Size:** 6” plants in landscape pots
Plant Characteristics:
Fern Sprengeri produces arching, cascading stems covered in tiny, bright green needle-like leaves that create a soft, cloud-like appearance. The stems can grow 12-18 inches long, making it perfect for hanging baskets, elevated planters, or as a trailing accent on shelves and plant stands. As the plant matures, it may produce small white flowers followed by bright red berries, adding seasonal interest beyond the foliage. The root system includes water-storing tubers that help the plant survive periods of drought. This vigorous grower creates full, lush displays relatively quickly compared to many houseplants.
Care Instructions:
- **Light:** Bright, indirect light to partial shade; more tolerant of lower light than true ferns
- **Water:** Water when top inch of soil feels dry; drought tolerant once established
- **Humidity:** Average household humidity (30-50%); less demanding than true ferns
- **Temperature:** Comfortable at room temperature 65-80°F; can tolerate brief cool spells
- **Soil:** Well-draining potting mix; adaptable to various soil types
- **Fertilizer:** Monthly feeding with balanced liquid fertilizer during growing season
- **Pruning:** Trim yellowing or damaged stems at the base to encourage fresh growth
Special Notes:
Much easier to care for than true ferns while providing similar aesthetic appeal! The needle-like foliage may cause mild skin irritation for sensitive individuals, so handle with care. This plant can be grown outdoors in warm climates and makes an excellent transition plant for porches and patios.
Perfect for those who love the fern look but want a more forgiving, drought-tolerant option. Note: The berries are mildly toxic to pets and children if ingested, though the foliage is generally considered safe.
