Plant Characteristics
Pothos 'Silver Splash' is a mesmerizing variety with deep green, heart-shaped leaves heavily speckled with silvery-gray variegation. The leaves have a soft, velvety texture that shimmers in the light, creating a look that is both striking and serene. As its vines grow, they create a beautiful, cascading waterfall of color, perfect for hanging baskets or trailing gracefully from a shelf.
Pothos 'Skeleton Key' is a rare and intriguing variety that is a conversation starter. Its leaves begin as a typical heart shape, but as they mature, they morph into a unique "skeleton key" or paddle-like shape with large holes and deep lobes. The foliage is a rich, dark green, and the mature, fenestrated leaves give the plant a dramatic, tropical appeal.
Care Instructions
- Light: Both varieties tolerate low to medium indirect light but thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade their unique variegation.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the top two inches of soil feel dry. They will let you know they are thirsty when their leaves start to curl slightly. It's better to underwater than to overwater.
- Humidity: They prefer average to high humidity. Misting occasionally or placing them near a humidifier can help the plants thrive, but it's not a requirement.
- Temperature: Room temperature 65-85°F. Protect them from cold drafts, which can damage the foliage.
- Soil: A well-draining potting mix is essential. A standard indoor potting soil is usually sufficient.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
Special Notes
Both of these Pothos varieties are incredibly versatile and easy to propagate from stem cuttings, making them great for sharing. They are known for their air-purifying qualities, helping to remove toxins from the air. Please note that while beautiful, these plants are toxic if ingested by pets or children. Keep them in a safe, elevated place.
Perfect for hanging baskets, high shelves, offices, or anywhere you want to add a unique, trailing splash of greenery.
