Plant Characteristics:

Hoyas are succulent-like climbing or trailing plants with thick, waxy leaves that store water, making them incredibly drought-tolerant. Most varieties will trail or climb given support, making them perfect for hanging baskets, trellises, or trailing from shelves. The real magic happens when mature plants (typically 2-3 years old) produce clusters of star-shaped, often fragrant flowers in shades of pink, white, or burgundy. The blooms appear on “spurs” that should never be removed, as they bloom repeatedly from the same spots. Each variety offers unique leaf shapes, patterns, and growth habits, from the classic oval leaves of Carnosa to the twisted, rope-like foliage of the Rope varieties.

Care Instructions:

- **Light:** Bright, indirect light; some morning sun encourages blooming

- **Water:** Water when soil is dry; very drought tolerant once established

- **Humidity:** Average household humidity (30-50%); not fussy about humidity

- **Temperature:** Room temperature 65-85°F; prefers warmth for optimal growth

- **Soil:** Well-draining succulent or cactus mix; excellent drainage essential

- **Fertilizer:** Light feeding 2-3 times during growing season; avoid over-fertilizing

- **Support:** Provide trellis or allow to trail; don’t disturb flower spurs

Special Notes:

Patience is key with Hoyas - they’re slow growers but incredibly long-lived and rewarding. Never remove the leafless “peduncles” (flower spurs) as these produce blooms year after year. The flowers are often fragrant and may produce sweet nectar. These plants can live for decades and become impressive specimens with time.

Perfect for succulent lovers, patient gardeners, and anyone wanting low-maintenance plants with spectacular bloom potential. Safe around pets and children.
