My Story
Meet Melanie, co-owner and creative force behind Plattsburgh Flower Market. Melanie's journey in floristry began in the late 90s at the original Plattsburgh Flower Market on City Hall Place, where she discovered her lifelong passion for transforming blooms into meaningful experiences.
Determined to master her craft, Melanie attended SUNY Cobleskill where she earned her A.A.S. in Ornamental Horticulture-Floriculture and completed extensive upper level coursework toward her B.T. degree. That combination of formal plant science education and hands-on design training laid the foundation for the elevated, technique-driven style Plattsburgh Flower Market is known for today.
In 2004, Melanie and her mother took the next step, purchasing Plattsburgh Flower Market and beginning their chapter as a multigenerational, mother-daughter owned business. For over two decades, she has worn many hats; co-owner, general manager, lead wedding floral consultant, head of customer care — and behind the scenes, she handles most of the shop's accounting. Known for her meticulous planning and calm attention to detail, Melanie personally oversees the shop's most complex event installations and high stakes weddings. She believes flawless events don't happen by accident — they happen through preparation, clear communication, and caring deeply about every stem that goes out the door.
Melanie's passion to learn has never stopped. She's constantly researching, experimenting with new techniques, and finding inspiration in an industry that's more connect than ever. The internet has opened up a wealth of knowledge, and the floral community is incredibly generous about sharing it. While getting out to in-person seminars isn't always possible with a shop to run, she makes it a point to attend virtual workshops and online presentations whenever she can — always bringing those fresh idea home to the design bench.
When she's not designing or managing the business side, Melanie is mom to Bentley, Everest, and Himalaya "Laya," the shop's beloved Samoyed ambassadors. With her deep expertise, relentless work ethic, and genuine love for people, Melanie isn't just part of the Plattsburgh Flower Market team — she's the driving force behind it's reputation for artistry, service, and heart.
